The parties can alter these terms through a family law attorney with a clear, written agreement. Permanent spousal support is based upon the factors established in section 4320 of the California Family Law Code.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\">When ordering spousal support, the\u00a0judge may issue what is called a <em>Gavron<\/em> order which requires both parties to become self-supporting in a reasonable amount of time. If the court finds that the supported spouse has had the opportunity to become self-sufficient and has not done so, the court can terminate or reduce spousal support.<\/p>\n<p style=\"white-space: pre-wrap;\"><em>Please note that this legal advice does not establish a family law attorney-client relationship.
