Modification of Child Support

Child support can be modified at any time as long as there is a change in circumstances. If one spouse loses his or her job, that spouse can request the court to modify child support downward. If the paying spouse begins to earn more money, then the payee spouse can request the court to modify the amount of child upward. The paperwork needs to be filed as soon as the party knows of the change in circumstances. The court will only change the order for child support back to the date of filing the request to change the amount of child support.
